Despite this huge need, research into the condition is lagging behind other areas of health:

GlobalMinds Dementia aims to change this by creating the most in-depth research library in the world, powered by participants living with dementia.

Thanks to our participants, researchers will be able to use this unique resource to help them make vital new discoveries.

These breakthroughs could unlock a new era of personalised medicine for dementia.

See how we hope to achieve this below.

How it works

Frame 22

We build a unique research resource

GlobalMinds Dementia extracts and analyses DNA and other biological information from blood donated to the study, such as blood-based biomarkers, and pairs this with responses to our questionnaire and data from the individual’s NHS health record.

These insights will be combined from a thousand participants. The resulting dataset will be a powerful tool for researchers to understand what influences the risks, development and severity of  different forms of dementia.

Researchers make discoveries

Researchers will be able to apply to use the GlobalMinds Dementia resource. They will search for patterns and features of the data to reveal new information about the links between genes, background, biology and dementia.

GlobalMinds Dementia could help find the answers to research questions like:

  • How do our genes affect our risk of developing dementia?

  • How can we predict and reduce this risk for people in the future?

  • How can we improve the way early signs of dementia are detected?

  • How can we treat the underlying the causes of dementia, to prevent or delay it taking hold?

  • How can we make sure each person gets treatment that is right for their type and stage of dementia?
